John Crane has secured a three-year Managed Reliability Programme with a major phosphate mining and fertiliser producer in Saudi Arabia, the company announced on 28 October 2026.
The programme, John Crane said, is intended to improve equipment reliability across the customer’s remote operations and reduce unplanned disruption. The customer’s activities cover phosphate mining and the production of fertilisers used in agriculture.
Onsite support and maintenance planning
Under the agreement, John Crane will provide dedicated onsite technical and service resources, giving maintenance teams direct access to specialist expertise. The company said it will help identify reliability issues, implement recommendations and address recurring mechanical seal problems, supporting a more proactive approach to maintenance.
John Crane also stated that a fixed fee for mechanical seal overhaul services is designed to give the customer greater visibility into what is included over the three-year term. The company said this structure is intended to support more predictable budgeting and maintenance cost planning.
Workshop and training at remote sites
As part of the programme, a planned onsite workshop operated by John Crane is expected to bring mechanical seal maintenance capability closer to the customer’s remote locations. John Crane said training and knowledge transfer will further strengthen the customer’s technical capability, enabling its teams to identify problems and apply practical reliability improvements.
The announcement said the programme follows equipment surveys used to validate the installed base and identify maintenance needs.
Company comments
John Crane’s General Manager for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Hani Attia, said equipment reliability is important for keeping mining and processing operations running. He added that bringing dedicated expertise closer to the operations is intended to help maintenance teams address issues earlier and reduce recurring failures.
Attia also stated that the fixed-fee approach for covered overhaul services is designed to help the customer plan expenditure, while training is expected to strengthen the customer’s internal maintenance capability.
Potential expansion
John Crane said the contract extends its reliability services expertise into the mining sector and provides a platform to build on the customer relationship. The company added that the programme could expand to other mining operations in Saudi Arabia under its strategic partnership agreement.
John Crane is described by the company as a global flow-control and rotating equipment specialist, including mechanical seals, seal support systems, couplings and filtration systems, with service and manufacturing centres across multiple countries.
