St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine has signed an Academic Affiliation Agreement with Fairgreen International School (FIS), an IB World School in The Sustainable City, Dubai, to create an education pathway for students aiming to pursue medical studies, according to the institutions’ announcement.
The agreement, dated 28 October 2026, is intended to provide eligible Fairgreen students with admissions pathways into SGU’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) tracks, alongside scholarship opportunities and academic guidance, the release says. It also frames the initiative as a response to continued growth in Dubai’s healthcare sector and demand for healthcare professionals.
Admissions pathway and study options
The announcement says students who complete the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and meet SGU’s admissions requirements will be able to apply to SGU’s MD tracks. The institutions say successful applicants may begin their studies at SGU’s campus in Grenada or at Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom, through SGU’s longstanding partnership with Northumbria University.
Fairgreen students described as eligible under the agreement are said to receive dedicated admissions support, including what the release calls a guaranteed interview opportunity, as well as academic guidance intended to support progression from secondary education to medical school.
Scholarship claims and clinical training network
The release states that the affiliation provides access to SGU’s Global Scholarship Program, offering scholarship support of up to USD 80,000 for eligible international students. It adds that additional financial assistance may be available to qualifying students.
SGU also says its MD students can access clinical training opportunities through a network of more than 75 affiliated hospitals and health centers across the United States and the United Kingdom, positioning the network as a route to hands-on patient exposure during medical study.
Healthcare workforce and facilities figures cited
In support of the initiative, the announcement cites figures attributed to the Dubai Health Authority. It says the private healthcare workforce exceeded 69,400 professionals in 2025, an increase of more than 8% year-on-year, and that the number of licensed healthcare facilities grew to approximately 5,800.
Statements from SGU and Fairgreen
In a statement, Lily Phommarack, Associate Director of International Academic Affiliations at St. George’s University, said the affiliation creates “a new pathway” for UAE students to pursue medical education and that admissions guidance and scholarship opportunities are intended to help students move toward their professional ambitions. The release also says the collaboration aligns with what SGU characterizes as the UAE’s broader focus on developing future healthcare professionals.
Timothy Rogers, Principal at Fairgreen International School, said the school encourages students to connect learning with the contribution they want to make, and that for those interested in medicine, the affiliation offers an opportunity to explore how interests such as curiosity and service could shape a career. He added that the school wants students to make informed choices about life beyond school.
Background on the institutions
SGU’s School of Medicine is described in the release as founded in 1976 and offering a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree program, with the option to enter from different education systems through five-, six-, or seven-year MD tracks. The announcement also says the MD program is accredited by the Grenada Medical and Dental Council, recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
Fairgreen International School is described as located in Dubai and as an IB Continuum School.
The release did not provide additional details on selection criteria beyond the stated requirements, and it did not specify whether the agreement includes future intake dates or program timelines beyond application eligibility.
