Oil prices have fallen sharply as markets reportedly grow more optimistic about hopes for peace between Iran and the United States, according to a market commentary shared by Axel Rudolph, Chief Technical Analyst at IG.
Rudolph said the move highlights how quickly a geopolitical risk premium can unwind when traders see a potential path toward reduced conflict. In his commentary, he pointed to expectations that a political shift in Washington could increase pressure for an end to the Iran conflict.
The analyst also cited what he described as signs of a supply recovery in the Gulf region. He suggested that recovering Gulf exports are already pointing to a “better supply picture,” contributing to the downward pressure on oil.
Rudolph further referenced U.S. political dynamics. He noted that President Trump’s acknowledgment that high gasoline prices can affect Republican prospects at the polls creates what he described as incentives to avoid further escalation.
In the combined view presented, Rudolph argued that softer demand expectations alongside improving supply conditions created a “bearish cocktail” for oil.
