U.S. equities traded higher in premarket activity on Monday as investors rotated across sectors tied to energy, travel and media, while a handful of individual stock moves reflected company-specific news and analyst actions. Among the largest gainers, SpaceX continued to find demand following its Nasdaq debut, and technology stocks lifted the broader tape as memory and storage names rose on fresh coverage.

    Key takeaways

    • SpaceX shares rose in premarket trade after the company’s second day on the Nasdaq following a strong first-session jump.
    • Energy stocks fell as crude prices slid toward the $80 level amid developments tied to U.S.-Iran diplomacy.
    • Airlines and cruise stocks rose on expectations of lower fuel costs from weaker oil prices.
    • Paramount Skydance rallied after the U.S. Justice Department approved Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, though state-level review could still pose a hurdle.
    • Investors rotated toward gold and miners as gold advanced, signaling a reduction in concerns around inflation-driven rate hikes tied to the conflict.

    What drove the move

SpaceX extended its debut momentum. Shares were up about 5% in premarket trading, after the company surged on its first day of trading on Friday—rising roughly 19% from its IPO price.

Energy prices pressured the sector. Oil prices fell about 5% to near $80 per barrel following a U.S.-Iran deal described as set to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. That pullback translated into broad weakness across major energy names, with multiple companies trading lower in premarket activity.

Lower oil supported travel stocks. Airlines and cruise operators benefited from the decline in fuel costs. United Airlines was up more than 5% and Delta Air Lines rose about 4% in premarket trade. Cruise stocks also moved higher, including Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival, with Royal Caribbean gaining as well.

Corporate deal and regulatory headlines boosted select media stocks. Paramount Skydance rose in premarket trading after the U.S. Justice Department announced it approved Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The market reaction reflected relief on the federal review front, even as the proposed merger could still face additional challenges at the state level.

Cross-asset M&A also reshaped expectations in streaming and sports. Fox shares fell sharply after the company announced it would acquire Roku at $160 per share, described as an 11% premium to Friday’s close. Roku shares, however, were up in premarket trading.

Analyst actions helped lift select tech and aerospace names. Micron Technology rose more than 7.5% as technology stocks gained and TD Cowen raised its price target. Analysts at the firm reportedly forecast the shares could reach $1,500, framing the role of memory in artificial intelligence infrastructure as structural rather than cyclical.

In aerospace, both Firefly Aerospace and Rocket Lab rose after KeyBanc upgraded them to overweight. The upgrades came after the prior session’s selloff—attributed to investors shifting money into SpaceX following its IPO. Firefly climbed in premarket trade, while Rocket Lab also gained.

Gold’s move supported the precious metals complex. Freeport-McMoRan rose in premarket trading as gold advanced more than 2.5% on Monday. Investors appeared to move back toward gold as a potential U.S.-Iran peace deal eased concerns that the Federal Reserve might need to raise rates further to contain inflation associated with the conflict.

    Market reaction

Sector moves largely tracked the day’s commodity impulse. A decline in oil weighed on energy equities, while the same driver helped lift airlines and cruise operators. Meanwhile, gold strength translated into support for mining stocks, suggesting investors were rebalancing toward hedges as geopolitical risks appeared—at least temporarily—less likely to keep inflation pressures elevated.

Stock-specific developments also played a major role. The market responded positively to deal progress at the federal level for the Paramount transaction, while investors judged Fox’s Roku acquisition through the lens of cost and strategic fit, pushing Fox lower even as Roku rose.

    What investors may watch next

With Monday’s premarket moves closely tied to oil and gold, traders will likely focus on further signals around U.S.-Iran diplomacy and any follow-through in commodity pricing. In equities, investors may also watch regulatory and legal timelines for the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, along with analyst follow-ups after TD Cowen’s Micron target increase and KeyBanc’s aerospace upgrades.

Attention next is likely to turn to the next set of scheduled macro data releases and any Fed-related commentary that could influence rate expectations—particularly if commodity moves begin to fade or re-accelerate.
