Premarket Movers: Cbrs, Mu, Fdx, Wen Lead Stock Market Moves

Premarket trading on Wednesday was dominated by a mix of earnings reactions, analyst moves and sector-wide sentiment. Cerebras slid after its first results as a public company and guidance pointed to weaker margins, while FedEx fell despite posting better-than-expected fiscal results. In the memory space, Micron rebounded after a sharp prior sell-off, and other memory names followed suit ahead of upcoming earnings.

    Key takeaways

    • Cerebras shares dropped 11% after its first earnings report as a public company, with second-quarter gross margin expectations pointing lower.
    • FedEx shares fell about 6.5% even though fiscal fourth-quarter results beat expectations, reflecting investor focus on the period before its freight spin.
    • Micron rose more than 2.5% as memory stocks rebounded from a broad sell-off tied to weakness in South Korean tech.
    • KB Home rose 2.5% on revenue that beat forecasts, despite earnings coming in below estimates.
    • Wendy’s jumped amid renewed retail attention and a potentially high short-interest setup highlighted by short-squeeze dynamics.

What drove the biggest premarket moves

Cerebras fell sharply after reporting its first earnings since going public in May. The company reported a first-quarter loss of 22 cents on revenue of $193.4 million. Investors also focused on guidance: core gross margin is expected to narrow to between 36% and 38% in the second quarter, versus 46.5% in the first quarter. The margin reset is likely to have weighed on sentiment for an early-stage post-IPO earnings profile.

FedEx declined about 6.5% despite fiscal fourth-quarter results that came in better than expected. According to the report, those figures reflected the last quarter before FedEx spun off its freight business. That structure can complicate investor interpretation because the results may be less directly comparable to the standalone operating picture the market will ultimately trade.

Micron rose more than 2.5% in premarket trading, rebounding after a 13% drop on Tuesday. The stock also climbed ahead of its earnings scheduled for Wednesday after the bell. Broader memory stocks joined the rebound following a Tuesday sell-off linked to a sharp drop in tech stocks in South Korea, with Sandisk up more than 2%, Western Digital up more than 1%, and Seagate Technology up about 1%.

KB Home gained about 2.5% after fiscal second-quarter revenue of $1.11 billion beat the $1.10 billion analysts had forecast, according to LSEG. However, KB Home’s earnings of 43 cents per share came in below the estimated 45 cents, suggesting investors were more encouraged by top-line progress than per-share profitability.

Worthington Enterprises dropped 10% after reporting fiscal fourth-quarter results that missed expectations. The company posted adjusted profit of 97 cents per share on revenue of $371.5 million, while analysts surveyed by FactSet expected earnings of $1.06 per share and revenue of $386.5 million.

Wendy’s surged after the stock became one of the most discussed names on the Reddit investing community r/Wallstreetbets, according to data from Swaggy Stocks. S3 Partners data cited in the report put Wendy’s short interest at around 23% of its float, a level that can heighten the risk of a short squeeze if trading momentum accelerates.

Arm Holdings added about 3% after analysts at UBS and TD Cowen raised price targets. Both firms pointed to improved outlook for the company’s CPU business, according to the report, tying the view to shifting demand as chip applications connected to “agentic AI” gain attention.

Take-Two Interactive Software climbed more than 3% after announcing that presales for Grand Theft Auto 6 will begin on Thursday. The report also said BTIG initiated coverage with a buy rating, arguing that the game could drive a multi-year improvement in earnings power.

Market reaction and what it implies for investors

The premarket pattern suggests investors are differentiating between companies based on the durability of near-term fundamentals and the credibility of forward expectations. Cerebras’ decline underscores how guidance—particularly margin trajectory—can outweigh reported quarter results when the company is early in its public lifecycle. For FedEx, the move highlights how corporate structure changes can influence investor read-through, with the market focusing on what comes after the freight spin rather than only beat-versus-consensus numbers.

In contrast, the memory rally reflects the market’s willingness to stabilize positions after a sector-wide risk-off move. The rebound in Micron and peers appears tied less to company-specific news and more to a shift in broader tech sentiment following weakness in South Korea, with traders also positioning for earnings timing.

Other moves point to narrative-driven catalysts alongside fundamentals. Wendy’s traded higher amid short-interest dynamics and renewed retail attention, while Arm and Take-Two benefited from analyst reassessments and product cycle signals, respectively.

    What to watch next

For investors, the near-term focus is on earnings and forward guidance clarity—especially for Micron, which reports after the bell Wednesday. Market participants will also watch whether post-earnings reactions align with the premarket narrative: margin direction for Cerebras, earnings quality after FedEx’s freight separation, and how memory demand signals translate into results. Outside company reports, macro inputs—especially those influencing tech sentiment and interest-rate expectations—can continue to sway high-beta sectors into the next trading session.
