According to CNBC, a wave of quarterly results, guidance revisions and deal chatter fueled a broad dispersion in stock moves, with several names punching higher on solid earnings while others slid on softer guidance or restructuring plans. Vestis surged more than 30% after fiscal second-quarter results beat expectations and the uniform and apparel maker raised its fiscal 2026 EBITDA outlook. Zebra Technologies climbed about 17% after a stronger-than-forecast first quarter and an upbeat outlook. Ralliant added roughly 14% on an adjusted earnings beat.

In the downside lane, Hub Group declined more than 10% after the transportation and logistics company said it would restate its year-end 2024 and 2023 results. Under Armour fell about 18% after posting a fiscal fourth-quarter loss on revenue of $1.17 billion, versus expectations for a larger revenue base. Meanwhile, GameStop shed more than 2% following news that eBay turned down a $56 billion takeover bid, citing financing concerns, while eBay edged higher. On Holding fell about 4% despite beating first-quarter expectations and reiterating its full-year net sales growth outlook along with higher earnings guidance.

Other notable moves included Wendy’s, which jumped more than 16% after The Financial Times reported that Nelson Peltz’s Trian Fund Management was considering raising funds for a take-private bid. ZoomInfo Technologies plunged more than 33% after trimming its full-year revenue guidance. Hims & Hers Health dropped 14% on softer earnings guidance. AST SpaceMobile slid 13% after a larger-than-expected first-quarter loss, though it reaffirmed its full-year revenue target. GitLab declined 11% after outlining a broad restructuring tied to its shift into agentic AI, including workforce reductions and management changes. Webtoon Entertainment fell 9% on second-quarter guidance for revenue and a muted EBITDA outlook, while Cleanspark slid 9% after second-quarter losses widened and revenue missed expectations. Mara Holdings also lost about 10% after reporting a first-quarter loss and revenue below estimates.

CNBC’s coverage highlighted a mix of catalysts across names, from solid earnings and raised guidance to aggressive corporate restructuring and M&A chatter, underscoring a market left balancing growth optimism with concerns about execution risk and valuation discipline.

    Key takeaways

    • Vestis: shares up >30% on Q2 beat and raised EBITDA outlook for 2026. Implication: potential repricing of profitability and margin trajectory.
    • ZoomInfo: shares down >33% after cutting full-year revenue guidance. Implication: growth expectations tempered; risk of revenue underperformance weighing on multiples.
    • Wendy’s: shares up >16% on reports that Trian Fund Management is exploring a take-private bid. Implication: ongoing private-equity interest in the fast-food sector and potential M&A risk for public stock.
    • GitLab: shares down ~11% on a broad restructuring tied to its AI pivot. Implication: execution risk amid a strategic shift toward agentic AI, with potential cost savings but uncertain timeline.

    What drove the move

    • The positives centered on solid earnings beats and forward guidance. Vestis, Zebra Technologies and Ralliant reported results that exceeded expectations, supporting higher price levels and potential re-rating on improved profitability and visibility.
    • The negatives stemmed from guidance downgrades, restatements and strategic pivots. ZoomInfo’s lowered revenue outlook reflected growth concerns; GitLab signaled a broad internal restructuring tied to an AI strategy, raising execution risk for investors; Webtoon Entertainment, Cleanspark and Mara Holdings followed with guidance or results signaling softer near-term results.
    • Active-management and deal chatter added another layer. Wendy’s rally followed media reports about Trian seeking funds for a potential take-private bid, while eBay’s rejection of a bid from GameStop dampened deal-speculation for the moment. On Holding’s earnings beat did not translate into a rally, as investors weighed the pace of its growth against ongoing profitability and cost controls.

    Market reaction

The session captured a market environment where stock-specific trajectories diverge sharply on earnings quality and strategic direction. Positive earnings momentum and elevated guidance buoyed several value and industrial names, while growth-oriented and crypto-adjacent names faced profit-taking or skepticism around targets and capital allocation. The breadth of moves—spanning consumer, tech, logistics and crypto-adjacent sectors—illustrates the uneven stance investors are taking as earnings season unfolds and as the market weighs potential AI-driven cost restructurings against the need for sustainable revenue growth.

    Bigger picture

Across the market, investors remain focused on how much earnings signals and strategic shifts align with broader macro themes, including resilience in demand, cost discipline, and the pace of technology-driven productivity gains. The breadth of today’s moves highlights ongoing uncertainty around growth trajectories, the timing of recovery for cyclical names, and the potential impact of private-equity activity on public markets. As companies continue to report, traders will be watching for fresh guidance revisions and any incremental detail on capital allocation and strategic pivots that could alter the earnings outlook for the balance of the year.

What to watch next: upcoming quarterly results, guidance revisions, and any new developments around private-equity interest or strategic reviews. Investors should keep an eye on the next batch of earnings reports, regional demand shifts, and any macro data that could influence rates and inflation expectations.
