Regional media landscape sees targeted launches and strategic hires
Publishers and broadcasters across the Middle East and North Africa are rolling out new titles and programming while reshuffling editorial teams, underlining continued investor interest in specialised business and consumer content. This week’s activity ranges from a US-MENA fintech simulcast and a Saudi-focused business podcast to regional editions of established tech trade magazines, alongside a string of editorial appointments at major outlets.
FINTECH.TV to simulcast between Dubai and the NYSE
New York–based FINTECH.TV plans to launch a daily, two-hour live programme that will link market developments in the Middle East with US trading hours. The show, which will be broadcast from studios in Dubai and the New York Stock Exchange, aims to provide real-time coverage bridging Wall Street and MENA capital markets.
For regional market participants and corporate issuers, a live feed timed to US trading represents a bid to increase visibility among global investors and to streamline cross-border market commentary. Producers will be looking to attract institutional viewers and sponsors in wealth management, trading platforms and fintech, areas that have seen increased activity in the region.
Business and trade titles expand local offerings
Saudi business publisher Argaam has debuted a business podcast focused on the country’s corporate and policy landscape. The programme features interviews with CEOs, policymakers and investors, aiming to unpack strategic decisions shaping Saudi Arabia’s economy. The format reflects a wider trend among regional business publishers to diversify into on-demand audio as a way to deepen engagement with executive audiences.
At the same time, Intelligent Global Media is launching regional editions of two of its specialist IT titles: Intelligent Tech Channels and Intelligent CISO, tailored for the Middle East and Africa. The move addresses growing demand from IT channel partners and cybersecurity professionals for regionalised analysis and vendor-agnostic guidance, a sign that enterprise IT and security remain high priorities for corporate budgets across MENA.
Consumer and lifestyle launches target post-pandemic leisure spending
Dubai has seen fresh entrants to the lifestyle and travel verticals. Online magazine 4PM Friday has started publishing curated lifestyle coverage, focused on leisure, food, travel and wellbeing. A separate platform, Talkin’ Arabia, launched with editorial focused on hospitality, travel and cultural experiences across the UAE and the wider region.
These launches come as consumer-facing media seeks to capitalise on rebound spending in travel and hospitality. For advertisers in luxury retail, tourism and F&B, new lifestyle inventory offers incremental channels to reach affluent urban audiences in the Gulf.
Editorial moves and market churn
Media organisations across the region have announced a string of hires and internal promotions. Notable moves include John Crowley joining Arabian Gulf Business Insight as Technology Editor with a remit covering tech, cybersecurity and AI; Kateryna Kadabashy taking on an aviation reporting role at Bloomberg’s Dubai bureau; and Tom Evans joining Arabian Business as Head of News, where Tala Michel Issa has been promoted to Managing Editor.
Other appointments range from consulting editorial roles in consumer titles to managing editor positions at trade publishers. The activity points to both consolidation and reorientation within newsrooms, as outlets invest in beats such as technology, business and travel to capture advertiser and subscription revenue.
Not all signals are positive: several smaller ventures have ceased or paused operations. The Dubai-launched online station covering crypto and blockchain closed earlier this year, and some regional titles have suspended publishing or seen senior departures. These reversals highlight the uneven economics of niche digital media in the region, particularly where advertising markets remain selective.
PR and corporate communications hires
In the PR arena, Hanover Communications has appointed Samantha Gregson Donnelly as Managing Director for the Middle East, elevating an executive who previously led the firm’s corporate practice in the region. Luxury hospitality operator Kerzner International has named a UAE-based Global PR & Communications Manager to oversee public relations across its One&Only, Atlantis and SIRO brands.
Such appointments are consistent with broader corporate strategies to invest in regional communications capability as companies expand operations and guest experiences across the Gulf.
Events and talent pipeline
The coming weeks include industry events such as Project Qatar, Legal Leaders in Dubai and Watch & Jewellery Middle East in Sharjah, providing opportunities for media and communications professionals to network with sectors that drive advertising and editorial coverage. A regional jobs board continues to list more than a hundred vacancies across journalism, PR and communications, indicating ongoing demand for specialised editorial and corporate content skills.
What this means for the market
Several themes emerge from the recent slate of launches and hires. First, there is a clear prioritisation of business, technology and finance beats, reflecting advertiser interest and the needs of institutional audiences. Second, publishers are experimenting with cross-platform formats such as live simulcasts and podcasts to reach decision-makers and to build premium inventory for sponsors. Third, while investment continues, the sector remains selective; some niche ventures have closed or paused as advertising and subscription economics tighten.
For media buyers and corporate communicators, these developments offer fresh channels to engage regional business audiences. For newsroom leaders, the challenge remains balancing investment in specialised coverage with sustainable commercial models in a fragmented digital ecosystem.
