Is Velvet’s 300% Rally Losing Momentum?
Is Velvet’s 300% Rally Losing Momentum?

Velvet (VELVET) eased from record highs after a rapid three-day surge that propelled the token more than 300%, as technical indicators and on-chain signals point to a more uncertain near-term setup. CoinGecko data shows VELVET jumped from around $0.39 on June 26 to an all-time high above $2 on June 29, before pulling back to about $1.72 at the time of writing. Even with the retracement, the token remained up more than 260% over the past seven days, keeping it among the strongest performers in the cryptocurrency market.

The latest phase of the move appears tied to a shift in Velvet’s protocol liquidity on Base and the introduction of synthetic pre-IPO markets that offer tokenized exposure to private companies, including SpaceX. However, investors are now weighing whether the rally is transitioning from momentum-driven demand into profit-taking and potential supply headwinds.

    Key takeaways

    • Price move: VELVET rose from roughly $0.39 (June 26) to above $2 (June 29), then eased to around $1.72.
    • Catalyst: Demand followed Velvet consolidating protocol-owned liquidity on Base into Aerodrome Finance, making it the protocol’s only liquidity venue, and launching synthetic pre-IPO markets.
    • Market implication: Technical signals suggest the token may be consolidating after a sharp breakout, with near-term resistance around the $2 area.
    • Risk to watch: Token valuation appears disconnected from the protocol’s reported locked value, while token transfers to exchanges and an upcoming unlock date could pressure sentiment if speculative interest cools.

    What drove the surge

Velvet’s momentum accelerated after the protocol moved to consolidate its protocol-owned liquidity on Base into Aerodrome Finance. By making Aerodrome Finance the network’s only liquidity venue for the protocol, the change concentrated trading activity into one marketplace, a shift that can reduce slippage and improve order execution for traders.

That update was followed by the introduction of synthetic pre-IPO markets offering tokenized exposure to private companies, including SpaceX. The launch appeared to attract speculative participation and coincided with the token’s rapid climb to new highs.

Broader market conditions also played a role. The rally unfolded while Bitcoin and Ethereum were trading within relatively narrow ranges, a backdrop that can encourage capital to rotate toward smaller, narrative-driven assets when overall risk appetite is focused rather than broadly dispersed.

    Market reaction and technical signals

Chart signals indicate buyers still controlled the breakout, but momentum is beginning to cool. Technical levels highlighted in market analysis showed VELVET pushing through a long-standing resistance area between $0.60 and $0.67, triggering an upswing that intensified as short sellers reportedly covered positions and new buyers entered.

After reaching approximately $2.15, profit-taking emerged around record highs. On the daily chart, the relative strength index was near 72, a level that typically reflects overbought conditions and can precede consolidation or short-term pullbacks as traders take gains. At the same time, daily MACD remained positive—MACD held above the signal line and the histogram expanded—suggesting bullish momentum had not fully reversed despite the cooling price action.

Liquidity and capital flow indicators also looked constructive in the short term. On a four-hour view, Chaikin Money Flow was around 0.30, consistent with continued inflows rather than immediate capital leaving the asset. Additionally, Fibonacci retracement analysis suggested VELVET was consolidating near the 23.6% retracement level around $1.73 after rejecting recent highs. Analysts pointed to the $2 region as the next resistance area if the token holds above that consolidation band, while a deeper decline could target the 38.2% retracement near $1.47 and then the 50% level around $1.27.

    Valuation concerns and supply risks

Even with a bullish technical picture, multiple risk indicators are drawing attention. According to market tracking platforms referenced by the report, Velvet’s fully diluted valuation has climbed to roughly $800 million, while the protocol secures only about $770,000 in total value locked. The sizable gap implies that the recent price action may be driven more by enthusiasm around synthetic pre-IPO trading and artificial intelligence-themed decentralized finance narratives than by a proportional increase in underlying on-chain usage.

On-chain activity also raised questions about potential selling pressure. Blockchain transaction data highlighted transfers of nearly 29 million VELVET tokens to centralized exchanges by market maker DWF Labs during the rally. Transfers to exchanges do not confirm immediate sales, but they can be seen by investors as a sign that some holders may be preparing to reduce exposure, particularly when trading activity surges.

Supply dynamics are another near-term factor. Token unlock schedule information indicates about 10.4 million VELVET tokens are due to be released on July 10. If speculative demand fades after the initial momentum, additional circulating supply could amplify downward pressure.

Bigger picture: what investors will watch next

With VELVET stepping back from record levels after a rapid run, investors are likely to focus on whether the token can hold consolidation around the $1.7 area and reclaim the $2 region. The next phase will also depend on whether on-chain value growth keeps pace with the valuation story, and how market participants digest exchange transfers and the upcoming July 10 unlock. In the broader crypto market, positioning may remain sensitive to expectations for restrictive monetary policy in the United States and continued strength in the U.S. dollar, factors that can influence where risk capital concentrates.
