HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. (TSX: HIVE) (NASDAQ: HIVE) (BVC: HIVECO) said it has appointed Canadian capital-markets veteran Hubert Marleau as an independent director of BUZZ High Performance Computing Inc. (BUZZ HPC), the company’s wholly owned subsidiary. The move, announced September 15, 2026, comes as BUZZ HPC scales its sovereign AI infrastructure platform across Canada, which HIVE describes as combining long-duration power, dark fiber and advanced computing.
The appointment adds what HIVE characterizes as additional independent oversight to BUZZ HPC’s governance as the company expands its role in what it calls Canada’s AI infrastructure build-out. The company also tied the announcement to upcoming public-facing participation at ALL IN 2026, a major technology conference taking place in Montreal on September 16 to 17.
Hubert Marleau’s capital-markets pedigree lands on BUZZ HPC’s board
Marleau joins BUZZ HPC as an independent director with more than five decades of cross-border capital-markets and governance experience. HIVE said he brings a record that spans senior roles and leadership positions across Canadian markets, as well as extensive public company board experience.
Among his background, Marleau is described as a co-founder of Palos Capital Corp. and Palos Management Inc. He has served as Governor of both the Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges, and chaired the Toronto Stock Exchange Listing Committee. He has also been a director of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, now IIROC. Throughout his career, HIVE said, he has served as a current or former director of more than 50 publicly traded companies across Canada and the United States. His experience is also described as including raising public and private capital for hundreds of issuers, and advising on numerous mergers, acquisitions and financings.
HIVE also points to senior leadership roles in Marleau’s operating career, including positions at Nesbitt Thomson and Lévesque Beaubien, now part of National Bank Financial, and leadership at Marleau Lemire Securities, where he served as chairman and CEO.
Currently, Marleau is identified as chairman and CEO of Nio Strategic Metals Inc., and as a market economist at Palos where he authors the weekly Palos Perspective. He holds an honours degree in economics from the University of Ottawa and established the Marleau Lecture Series on Economic and Monetary Policy there in 2019.
HIVE executives highlight governance focus as BUZZ HPC scales
HIVE said the board-level addition reflects an emphasis on independent oversight and disciplined execution as BUZZ HPC expands its sovereign AI platform. Frank Holmes, executive chairman of HIVE Digital Technologies and BUZZ HPC, framed Marleau’s appointment in terms of independence and judgment.
“I have known Hubert for 40 years and have watched him operate across virtually every layer of the capital markets. What I value most is his candor and independent judgment.
Holmes said BUZZ needs that kind of stewardship as it scales sovereign AI infrastructure in Canada, describing the build-out as bringing together long-duration power, dark fiber and advanced compute. He added that, in his view, capital allocation and governance must remain aligned with execution as the company moves forward and that Marleau understands those priorities.
Aydin Kilic, president and CEO of HIVE Digital Technologies and director of BUZZ HPC, similarly tied the decision to the requirements of scaling AI infrastructure. He said the process requires more than “capital and conviction,” emphasizing disciplined governance, rigorous capital allocation and accountability. Kilic stated that Marleau’s experience at the intersection of those areas would strengthen BUZZ HPC’s board as the company enters what he described as its next stage of growth.
Craig Tavares, president and chief operating officer of BUZZ HPC, focused on the scale of compute needs in Canada and on BUZZ HPC’s approach to building infrastructure with credibility. He said BUZZ HPC is an original signatory to Canada’s Responsible Data Centre Development Principles, and that the commitment shapes how the company builds. Tavares also characterized Marleau as one of the most respected names in Canadian capital markets and said the board appointment indicates where BUZZ HPC is headed.
Marleau, for his part, described AI compute as becoming strategic economic infrastructure and said Canada has the opportunity to build and control more of that infrastructure domestically. He referenced BUZZ HPC’s intent to draw on HIVE’s experience securing power, land and digital infrastructure as it builds a Canadian sovereign AI platform. He also said his career has involved helping companies access capital, navigate economic cycles, and grow responsibly while earning confidence from investors and the communities they serve.
BUZZ HPC to appear at ALL IN 2026 with three conference sessions
Alongside the board appointment, BUZZ HPC said it will attend ALL IN 2026, described as Canada’s largest AI and technology conference. The event is scheduled for September 16 to 17 in Montreal and organized by SCALE AI with Mila. HIVE said the conference draws more than 6,500 decision-makers, founders, investors and researchers from over 40 countries.
HIVE said Tavares will speak at three sessions during the conference, each scheduled across different stages. The company listed the following times and stages: Wednesday, September 16 at 10:10 AM ET on the AI Sessions Stage; Wednesday, September 16 at 1:30 PM ET in the Dell Theatre; and Thursday, September 17 at 1:45 PM ET on the ALL IN Talks Stage.
According to the release, Tavares will discuss how BUZZ HPC is developing sovereign AI infrastructure centered on reliable power, advanced computing, responsible growth and long-term partnerships with Canadian communities. The company said the presentations are focused on how Canada can close its compute gap while building sovereign AI infrastructure intended to create lasting economic value for communities that host the infrastructure.
For reference, HIVE linked the announcement to its release posting on Newsfile.
