HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. (TSX: HIVE) (NASDAQ: HIVE) (BVC: HIVECO) said it has appointed Canadian capital-markets veteran Hubert Marleau as an independent director of BUZZ High Performance Computing Inc. (BUZZ HPC), the company’s wholly owned subsidiary. The move, announced September 15, 2026, is intended to strengthen independent oversight as BUZZ HPC expands its sovereign AI infrastructure platform across Canada.
Marleau’s appointment adds senior capital-markets experience to BUZZ HPC’s board
Marleau brings more than five decades of cross-border experience in capital markets and corporate governance to BUZZ HPC, according to HIVE. He is described as having operated “at virtually every level” of Canadian capital markets throughout his career.
His leadership and governance background includes serving as Governor of the Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges, chairing the Toronto Stock Exchange Listing Committee, and serving as a director of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, now IIROC. HIVE also noted that over his career he has been a current or past director of more than 50 publicly traded companies across Canada and the United States.
Beyond board roles, HIVE said Marleau has helped raise public and private capital for hundreds of issuers and advised on mergers, acquisitions and financings. His operating career included senior leadership positions at Nesbitt Thomson and Lévesque Beaubien—now part of National Bank Financial—as well as serving as chairman and CEO of Marleau Lemire Securities.
Marleau currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Nio Strategic Metals Inc. and Market Economist at Palos, where he authors the weekly Palos Perspective. He holds an honours degree in economics from the University of Ottawa and established the Marleau Lecture Series on economic and monetary policy there in 2019.
HIVE executives frame the role as critical for “disciplined” scaling of sovereign AI infrastructure
HIVE Executive Chairman Frank Holmes said he has known Marleau for 40 years and highlighted what he described as Marleau’s candor and independent judgment. Holmes linked the appointment to BUZZ HPC’s efforts to scale sovereign AI infrastructure in Canada with Bell, and said governance and capital allocation discipline will be necessary as the company brings together long-duration power, dark fiber and advanced compute.
“I have watched him operate across virtually every layer of the capital markets. What I value most is his candor and independent judgment.”
Holmes said that perspective is aligned with the stewardship BUZZ needs as it grows, adding that Marleau’s appointment strengthens the BUZZ HPC board and provides independent oversight “required as we grow.”
President and CEO Aydin Kilic also emphasized governance as a central requirement for scaling AI infrastructure, saying that building out such systems requires more than capital and conviction. He pointed to disciplined governance, rigorous capital allocation and accountability, and characterized Marleau’s experience as strengthening the board during what HIVE described as the company’s “next stage of growth.”
Craig Tavares, President and chief operating officer of BUZZ HPC, said Canada needs significantly more compute and that BUZZ HPC is building it to a standard the country can trust. He noted that BUZZ HPC is an original signatory to Canada’s Responsible Data Centre Development Principles, stating that commitment shapes how the company builds. Tavares said scaling sovereign compute depends on credibility, and called Marleau one of the most respected names in Canadian capital markets.
“His Board seat says exactly where BUZZ HPC is headed.”
In his remarks as the incoming director, Marleau said AI compute is becoming strategic economic infrastructure and that Canada has an opportunity to build and control more of it domestically. He said BUZZ HPC is drawing on HIVE’s nearly decade of experience securing power, land and digital infrastructure to develop a Canadian sovereign AI platform.
Marleau added that he has spent his career helping companies access capital, navigate economic cycles and grow responsibly while earning the confidence of investors and the communities they serve. He said he looks forward to bringing his experience and independent perspective to the BUZZ HPC board as the company enters its next growth phase.
BUZZ HPC to participate in ALL IN 2026 as it discusses Canada’s compute gap
As part of its activity around Canada’s AI ecosystem, BUZZ HPC said it will attend ALL IN 2026, described by the company as Canada’s largest AI and technology conference. The event is scheduled for September 16 to 17 in Montreal and organized by SCALE AI with Mila.
HIVE said the conference draws more than 6,500 decision-makers, founders, investors and researchers from over 40 countries. Craig Tavares is scheduled to speak at three sessions during the conference focusing on how Canada can close its compute gap while building sovereign AI infrastructure intended to create lasting economic value for communities hosting the infrastructure.
According to the release, Tavares’ appearances are: Wednesday, September 16 at 10:10 AM ET on the AI Sessions Stage; Wednesday, September 16 at 1:30 PM ET in the Dell Theatre; and Thursday, September 17 at 1:45 PM ET on the ALL IN Talks Stage.
Across the sessions, HIVE said Tavares will discuss BUZZ HPC’s development of sovereign AI infrastructure built around reliable power, advanced computing, responsible growth and long-term partnerships with Canadian communities.
