Students repurpose waste into artworks as part of Epson’s ReCreators programme
Three pupils from Dubai National School were named winners this week in Epson’s ReCreators contest, an education-focused initiative that asked children to build artworks using recycled or discarded materials. The competition, launched by the technology firm on World Sustainability Day last October, aimed to introduce students aged seven to 12 to practical ideas about reuse and recycling.

The contest featured three award categories: Best Use of Recycled Materials, Most Creative Design, and Most Practical/Inspiring Idea. Entries were evaluated by members of Epson’s regional leadership team and a local influencer, Dina Butti. Judges selected works by Abdulrahman Al Madani, Thani bin Ghlaita and Karam Tarrab from Dubai National School.
The winning pieces included a bird sculpture assembled from electronic waste and old compact discs, a seascape built from water bottle caps and discarded plastic to depict a boat, and a landscape with a sun made from assorted bottle caps. Art teacher Hanan Alazawi assisted the pupils during the project.
Each student winner received an Epson EcoTank printer. Participating schools were provided with Epson projectors, and selected entries were published on Epson’s social media channels.
Suad Abu Harb, principal at Dubai National School, congratulated the students and said the initiative encouraged pupils to consider the impact of waste and value of recycling. Bella Tobing, Head of Corporate Sustainability & Government Affairs at Epson, described the programme as an opportunity to pair creativity with eco-consciousness and to promote reuse aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
